Can This Phone Beat the Samsung S8 — LG G6

LG announced their phone back at CES 2017. If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically an event that takes place in Las Vegas at the beginning of January where companies showcase their new product which they will be releasing at the start of summer or at the end of spring time. LG always attends this event because it gives them an opportunity to showcase their new product that will be releasing.

In this case, it was the LG G6. This was launched prior to their successor phone the LG G5. LG has taken a lot of things in the LG G5 and has made it better. For example the actual design. The screen size of the LG G6 is .4 inches more than the LG G5 and that is only because it has an end to end display. Let us take a look at the specs of the new smartphone. The phone will come in only two colors, Black, and Platinum which are kind of a bummer because I wish there were better colors to choose from. These colors options aren’t really the best colors that suit the LG G6.

Specs

Screen

The improved screen on the LG G6 packs a 5.7″ QHD Plus screen. This is the new trend of phones. Companies such as Samsung and OnePlus have already started to have this feature embedded in their phone. The Samsung’s Galaxy S8 normal size is 5.8 inches which sound way too big for a phone that isn’t even a plus series. LG G6 has mostly a bezel-free display which is crazy because it is the first phone to have this feature. Samsung takes the spot for having the best infinity display and LG takes the spot for a bezel-free design. The screen resolution for the LG G6 is 2880 x 1440 which is normal considering it in the iPhone 7 and the new Samsung S8 Plus.

Camera

This is something that I was looking for in the Samsung S8 but they did not have it. It is the Dual-Rear Camera design. This design was first introduced at the Apple event when they launched the new iPhone 7 Plus. That also featured a dual rear camera design. The two rear camera’s in the LG G6 will be 13 MPwith a 4160 x 3120 resolution and the front camera will feature a 5MP wide angle lens. It is pretty good for taking selfies because it has a 2560 x 2160 resolution and it can auto shot meaning it can detect the face. The photo and video can zoom up to 8x which is what the iPhone 7 Plus recalls also. The camera can record up to 4K videos with resolution up to 3840 x 2160. It can also record slow motion at 1280 x 720 resolution at 120 FPS.

Durability and Reliability

The LG G6 with an IP68 rating, it’s sealed against dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. This is very good that they put this on the phone because now all products have some sort of thing to protect from water but they don’t have anything that will protect from dust except for the Apple Watch Series 2. The battery exceeds requirements by the government. If you accidently drop your phone then it will not crack or anything because of the inside material. Internally it has a design that will prevent the battery from heating up and exploding (Samsung Note 7).

Battery

The battery in the LG phone will sadly not be removable. This is something that was there in the other LG phones and this is the only phone without that feature. This is kind of bad because now in order to change your battery you need to go visit an LG Outlet where you can get your battery exchanged. I can’t really tell why they would remove that feature but it is what it is. The battery is a 3,300 mAh battery and for some reason, they don’t state the battery life. This problem occurred in the Samsung S8 and no one still really knows what the actual battery life is for the Samsung S8. The phone will support a USB Type C charger and will have a USB Type C port at the back of the phone.

Extra Details

The phone is going to be priced at about $650. Not too shabby because the Samsung S8 starts from about $720 and that it is a lot of money being spent on a phone that lacks some of the features on the LG G6. It will run the latest Android Software which is the Android 7.0 Nougat and will have 32GB of ROM and 4GB of RAM. The coolest thing is that it will support a microSD™ up to 2TB. This is super good because microSD’s are cheaper than the other SD cards and you get more space. For the first time, LG will support the Google Assistant just like the Google Pixel and there is a promotion going on, that if you buy a phone then you can get the Google Home with it if you want to. There is a link which you can go, to visit the promotion (LG Promotion). The phone will have touch ID just like all phones and you can use that to unlock your phone and make payments with. The phone will right now be able to be bought from AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Moble, U.S. Cellular, Best Buy and later from Amazon and B&H. You can only buy it with a contract right now but later you can buy it unlocked. The last thing I wasn’t to mention is that the phone will come with wireless headphones. This is just like what apple did where they replaced their headphones with a charger but instead, here they have wireless headphones.

Conclusion

I feel that the LG G6 is super good because it has some things which some companies don’t have. Like the Dual-Camera feature and also the screen. The only problem is, that we don’t know how long the phone is going to live until it runs out of juice. We will see in the future if they state anything about that.
