Smartphones have revolutionized the world. We carry it with us wherever we go. Wouldn’t it be cool though if we have a personal assistant with us at all times? Well, introducing Bixby. This is the new personal assistant for all Samsung phones starting from the new Galaxy S8. If you don’t know what I am talking about then visit this link (The new Samsung Galaxy S8). Smartphones and even computers have already started to have personal assistants. For example, you have Siri on all Apple devices, Cortana on all Microsoft devices including their computers, Ok Google on the new Google Pixel Phone, Alexa on the Amazon Echo and Echo dot and lastly Ok Google but on the Google Home.
Every device is starting to have some sort of personal assistant and finally, that has come to the Samsung generation. Bixby is just like Siri. You can use voice, text, or touch to say what you need since it understands all three. It’s integrated into every aspect of the Galaxy S8 and S8+, so it’s able to handle the tasks you normally do on your phone and it’s constantly learning your ways so it can get better and better. Samsung has kind of copied Apple by portraying a screen when you click on the button to open Bixby home. Just like Siri, there are suggestions of what Bixby can do and both at the top say “Ok, I am Listening”.
Bixby can access your camera for anything. If you point your camera at a paragraph of words it will automatically convert that on your phone and translate it into whatever language you want. If you want to find a restaurant at a certain place then point your camera at a certain landmark where you are and it will automatically search for results around where you are using the camera. If you point the camera at a cat then it will automatically search for the closest picture of the cat you are looking hat on google. Lastly, if you want to buy a certain item then point the camera at a chair and it will give you a close search of what that chair is and its price. This is super good because Bixby is the only assistant that can do that.
Based on your phone Bixby will constantly update the results that it is getting. When it is night Bixby will check for reminders and calendar invites at the certain time. Not really surprising because all of the other assistants do that already.
Personally once again I feel that Bixby is a bit more advanced than Siri, but there are no signs that it can play a certain song or certain band from Spotify or from pandora or it can’t even play a radio channel from TuneIn or Amazon Music.
