Tesla Model 3 spotted with trunk open

As we get closer and closer to the unveiling of the Model 3, the spy shots keep coming. There are suspected to be at least 100 unique Model 3’s roaming the streets as Tesla has to rigorously test the vehicle to make sure that it is perfect by the time production and deliveries begin in the coming months. More cars mean more pictures and that is what we have for you today.

Now, one of the most controversial issues with the Model 3 is the access to the trunk. Tesla is known for a large amount of space that is in its vehicles. The cars are designed as hatchback’s which provide lots of rear trunk space and being an electric vehicle, there is no engine, which creates a frunk, or front trunk. This makes the Model S and Model X some of the most spacious vehicles every manufactured. The Model X is actually the most spacious luxury SUV manufactured with a whopping 88 cubic feet of cargo space. All this is possible because of the lack of an engine and many other parts present in gas vehicles. The Model S has been held to the same standards and all the same is expected with the Model 3. But the issue isn’t the amount of space present, with 15 cubic feet of space, half of what is present in the Model S. The issue is the rear gate the opens up space to the trunk.

Being a hatchback means that the trunk has a rear liftgate that is powered by hydraulics to automatically move up and down. The rear liftgate is along the entire rear of the car thus when opened one can clearly see the entire interior of the car as seen in the picture on the left. For the Tesla Model 3, this is not the case. Thanks to @TheTeslaLife who took the picture seen on the right side yesterday, we see that the when the rear is open, the trunk does not completely opened and is also manually powered. This is something that has disappointed many as it was also seen at the original unveil in March 2016 where people hoped this would be changed. This disadvantage, as many have been calling it, is because of the most amazing feature in the Model 3 of a full glass roof. Tesla designed the Model 3 to have one continuous glass pane on top which would for amazing viewing experiences when looking above. Because there is one continuous glass extending along the length of the vehicle, this prohibits the car from having a larger trunk gate as a continuous glass pane means that there cannot be a break thus the glass cannot be incorporated into the gate. To many, this will be an issue. But we can definitively say that this design for the trunk is final as the Model 3 pictured above does not have a glass roof. It is a solid metal roof which means that Tesla may have an option to get no glass but that does not change the style of the rear trunk.

Lastly, we have some quick news to add. Yesterday, Elon Musk also confirmed that more Model 3 information will be coming out today. Today morning, when asked on Twitter once again, he reassured everyone, so to speak, that we will be getting the information today. In the past, Elon  Musk is not one who is known to be on time with promises so people had their hopes high today.  But as of the time that I am writing this sentence, it is 7:45 PM on July 2, 2017, and the day is coming to an end. So, people may be disappointed once again. But, for any questions that are remaining, they will be answered by the end of this month with the official unveiling of the Model 3. Or until we get more pictures.

  1. The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 25 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

  2. The U-shaped pillow wraps around the body which further explains its shape. In essence, the pillow hugs your front and your back for superior support. If you’re pregnant and wake up every morning with a sore back, then spinal support such as the Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow is what you need.
