Is Apple’s Refined Version of the iPad better than the First iPad?

So if you don’t remember way back in around 2010 ish Apple released their first new iPad. This was one of the first successful smart tablets to come out until a few months later when Samsung then started to copy their idea and create a series that is still popular the Galaxy Tab. Now Apple still releases new versions and models of their iPad for example when they released the new iPad Pro and iPad Pro Mini. Well, Apple has now released a refined version of their first iPad which is much more affordable for people that are on a tight budget on electronics and gadgets. Let us jump right into it.

Design

The new iPad 2017
The old iPad 2010

So just by looking at the design in the picture at the top, we can see that the back of the iPad is flatter and more engraved in the tablet. This is 1 of the 2 major changes to the design. If you don’t know what a mean then if you don’t remember the first iPad had a flat center point at the back but then the edges were super curved and the back kind of curved into a flatbed where the screen was located. The deep curves have now been removed and have created a more modern look to the refined iPad.

The next thing I want to talk about is the camera. Both camera’s in the iPad’s still have the same look. They are both implanted in the tablet and the camera’s don’t have a trim. Nothing is sticking out from both cameras. This is super good because Apple is still keeping the concept art and design the same but they are not leaving things till the point where it looks super bad even in the modern day. The big Apple logo at the back is now white. That is 2 of the 2 only differences that were made to the actual device. There is a lot of reasons why they did that was so that it matches the colors of the iPad depending on which one you buy. Speaking of colors, customers will be allowed to buy the iPad with a color choice of Silver, Space Gray and Gold. These are the standard colors that were available in 2012 when the iPhone 5 came out. Let us now dive into the specs of the product.

Specs

This is the new iPad with Wifi + Cellular that is why the black bar is at the top center.

The new refined iPad will be available to be purchased with Wifi or with Wifi + Cellular. The only design difference that it makes is if you get the wifi + cellular you get the black or white bar (depending on color choice) at the top center of the device. That is the cellular antenna so that your device can connect to the cell towers just like how the iPhones have that thin tape at the back. This is was also released with the 2010 iPad and that is why Apple is doing the separate thing because now when you buy any Apple device it comes with Wifi + Cellular because of the Sim-Card but in this case iPad does not support a Sim-Card. The new iPad will be available in 32GB and 128GB. This is the new thing that Apple is doing with each device they sell now. They are removing the 16GB and it is rumored that they might even remove the 32GB later on in the year.

Dimensions & Buttons

On Apple’s website, there is a whole design concept art of the iPad.

Unfortunately, the iPad will support the new Lightning connector cable I personally wish they added the older style charging outlet with the old charger because that was the first charger that was invented by Apple until the iPhone 5 series came out. On both sides of the lightning connector, there will be 2 sets of stereo speakers. The iPad will come with the Home/Touch ID sensor. There is a reason why they would be adding this one instead of the normal home button because they want your iPad to be more secure. At the top left this time there will be a 3.5mm headphone jack all of that general stuff with the volume and power button. The new thing which they added was the Nano-Sim tray. This is only for the cellular models. This is for the people that purchased the cellular model and it allows them to put in the Sim so that they can use data wherever there is no wifi. And again you will not be seeing this in the normal Wifi, not Wifi + Cellular model.

Display & Chip

This is a very short detail of the device but the iPad will support a more clear and sophisticated display on the iPad. The screen is a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology. It will be packed with 2048 by 1536-pixel resolution at 264 ppi. As you can tell the resolution has obviously changed drastically. This is was bound to happen because now all devices are up to this level. Inside the iPad, will be an advanced A9 chip with 64-bit architecture with and embedded M9 coprocessor.

Camera

The Rear camera located at the back will not be a quite advanced camera but come on who takes pictures with a big fat tablet in your hand. We now have these advanced mini tablets in our pocket like the iPhone 7 Plus and the Samsung 8 Plus. The rear camera will be an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording up to 30 fps and record Slo‑mo up to 120 fps. You will now be able to Time-lapse a video with stabilization which was not there in the first iPad. There will be Video image stabilization and just like all the camera, it will have Face detection. The Front Camera also known as the FaceTime HD Camera will take 1.2-megapixel photos and also Live Photos with a ƒ/2.2 aperture lens.  The camera will be able to record up tp 720p HD videos. Not the best but who records with the front camera, I thought that was meant for selfies. Obviously, the camera will Face detection but the thing that I thought was the weirdest was Burst mode. I can’t believe that the front camera will have burst mode. Who needs that many pictures for a selfie. For the first time, the front camera will have a Timer mode. This is when you click on the take picture button and it will set a 5-second timer for you to get ready for the picture to get taken.

Extra Features (Battery & Price)

The iPad will be available from carriers At&T, Spring, T-Moble, Verizon, and GigSky (what is that?). The iPad will have a 10-hour battery life which is good enough for people that are surfing the web for a long period of time. When you are surfing the web and you are on cellular then your iPad will have 9 hours of battery life which is still a decent amount of battery life for tablets. The iPad will run on the latest iOS which is iOS 10. For 32GB with wifi, it will be $329, with 32GB and wifi + cellular it will be $459. For 128GB with wifi, it will be $429, with 32GB and wifi + cellular it will be $559. With Apple care, it will add an additional $100 to the total price. You will be able to buy the older style covers for the iPad because that was used for the first iPad.

I am super happy because for the first time Apple is releasing something that is super affordable. This is just a dream come true for the people that are on a super duper tight budget because generally, people are not able to buy these products because they are way to costly.
