A Big Jump for Samsung

It’s been a while since Samsung has released a new phone in the phone market. Last year Samsung launched their new Note phone called The Samsung Note 7. After that, it did not take that much time for news to spread. The Notes started blowing up and people were not happy with that. Samsung’s had been since then because no one really had any hope in the company. It wasn’t then for the CEO of Samsung when last week they announced their new Samsung S8 and S8 Plus. Which is weird. They are not continuing the edge series like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. At the conference, CEO Chi Hun Choi starts by greeting everyone and thanking them for coming to the event. After that, he begins to state how it has been a challenging year for Samsung, especially due to the Note 7.

Right after that, he starts to present the audience with the New Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, and if you don’t know what I am talking about then you can watch the video that is posting at the bottom of this article. I don’t want to waste that much time so I just wasn’t to go ahead and share the details and specs of the phone with you.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Specs

Both phones will be available in the colors of Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Coral Blue, Arctic Silver and lastly Maple Gold. Personally, I feel that the Maple Gold is my favorite because come on who doesn’t like spraypainted gold coloring on your phone. The Galaxy S8 will have a 5.8″ screen which is huge just for a normal sized phone. Compared to the iPhone plus series it is as big but the plus series for Samsung is much bigger. This is one of the things that Samsung is really focusing on so that they can provide their customers with the best experience. The screen is a Quad HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2960×1440.

These are all of the details of the camera. It isn’t that impressive to me because I was expecting a better camera for the normal phone not for the plus phone because if you look at Apple they have made some major improvements to their normal phone and have made a huge mass of change in their plus phone. Apple reminded me that they are starting a new era of smartphones with the new dual camera thing at the back of their phone but I guess Samsung is not part of that era not to be bias or anything.

  • 8MP AF
  • F1.7 Aperture
  • Pixel size: 1.22µm
  • Sensor size: 1/3.6″
  • FOV: 80

  • Dual Pixel 12MP AF
  • OIS (Optical Image Stabilization)
  • F1.7 Aperture
  • Pixel size: 1.4µm
  • Sensor size: 1/2.55″
  • FOV: 77
  • Max Zoom: 8x (digital)
  • Pro mode
  • Panorama
  • Slow motion
  • Hyperlapse
  • Food mode
  • Save as RAW file

For video recording, the only things that you really need to know are that it can record 4k videos up to 30fps which is a killer for a smartphone. It can record normal videos like 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 30fps which is a big jump for Samsung because till now they are the only company to enhance 720p in their phones.

The Smartphone comes with an Octa-Core with a 64bit, 10nm processor. The phone can store up to 4GB RAM and the phone when bought starts at 64GB and goes all the way up to 256GB. This is very good for the people that are interested in taking high-quality photos because they are a photographer because they need a lot of space to store those high-quality pictures and videos of nature. Just like all Samsung phones they have an expandable memory program where you can replace your SIM and get a dual SIM with up to 256GB of storage. The phone will run the latest version of Andriod which is Android 7.0 (Nougat). The phone will be water-resistant just like the other Samsung phones. It can be 1.5 meters below the surface and only for 30 minutes. The website hasn’t clearly stated how long their battery life is but they claim that even when it dies in 10 minutes your phone will almost be done charging because of their wireless charger. You can also connect a charger to the phone for charging and it supports a Type C cable charger to fit in at the back of the phone.

Samsung doesn’t have an internal built-in assistant bot that will answer your questions but now they do. Introducing Bixby. This is their new personal assistant on the phone. They have not disclosed what she can do but based on information online it is supposed to talk with you and it can check your messages and stuff that Siri can do. I have heard that it still isn’t that advanced as the other assistants because this is their first time in trying this piece of technology, so it will be a couple of months or years until they nail this concept down.

All of the specs stated in this article apply to both phones besides the screen the only difference between both phones is the size of the screen. The normal phone is 5.8″ and the plus is 6.2″. This is super good but I still feel that they could improve more on the phone especially the camera. Down below is a video of the announcement of the two new phones.

  1. Thanks for the writeup. I definitely agree with what you are saying. I have been talking about this subject a lot lately with my brother so hopefully this will get him to see my point of view. Fingers crossed!
